Microdermabrasion Overview
Microdermabrasion is a skin resurfacing treatment which can erase the signs of aging and sun damage, such as fine lines and wrinkles, on the face, neck, and chest. This popular skin care treatment works by removing the outer layer of old, dull skin cells to reveal the healthy cells underneath.
Microdermabrasion Procedure
In a microdermabrasion skin resurfacing treatment, the practitioner uses a handheld wand and moves slowly across the skin, focusing on problem areas. A blast of fine crystals is sprayed from the wand onto the skin. The crystals buff away the dull skin cells, which are then vacuumed away with the crystals.
Microdermabrasion is quick and painless. It is performed in the dermatologist's office in under an hour. Afterwards, patients can immediately return to normal activities.
Microdermabrasion Results
Microdermabrasion is effective at erasing the signs of aging and other imperfections on the skin. It is also good for treating and preventing acne. Patients can expect to see marked improvement in skin texture and tone after their initial treatment. For best results, the patient should undergo a series of microdermabrasion treatments spaced four to six weeks apart.
If appropriate, your dermatologist can recommend complimentary treatments to further enhance facial rejuvenation results, such as BOTOX® Cosmetic, photodynamic therapy procedures, chemical peels, or other skin care options.
