Lunchtime Skin Rejuvenation – Non-Invasive Photofacial Treatments and More at Our Oregon Practice

You can choose from a variety of non-surgical procedures that can reverse the signs of aging. The treatments discussed here were designed to reverse, improve, or erase the earliest signs of aging such as wrinkles, fine lines, and sun-damaged skin. They are referred to as "lunchtime procedures" not because we do them at lunch! Many of these treatments take only a few minutes to perform (you could theoretically have them done on your lunchtime), and, more importantly, require little or no recovery time. Consider having a skin rejuvenation or photofacial treatment at our Clackamas, Oregon office; treat yourself!

Signs of aging

Why do we call them "lunchtime" procedures?

Treatment Options

Signs of aging

In your 20s and 30s, wrinkles and irregular blotchy brown age spots may begin to appear. Your skin may seem less translucent and may show signs of fine red blood vessels.

In your 30s and 40s, the collagen and elastin protein support network begins to break down, and volume is lost from fat and bone. Wrinkles and folds/furrows become more prominent as your skin texture becomes uneven.

Once in your 50s, the new cell production decreases. Your skin retains less water, making it feel less soft and supple, and there is an accentuation of wrinkle and fold formation. The underlying normal fat deposits in your face continue to shrink, and the excess skin begins to sag like a deflated balloon.

Whatever your age and whatever skin condition you have, rest assured that healthier, younger-looking skin is attainable! You can always enhance what you have by undergoing a skin rejuvenation procedure at our Clackamas, Oregon office. Our experienced dermasurgeon Dr. Goodkin determines the treatment that is best for each individual, whether it's a dermal/volume filler, microdermabrasion, photofacial, etc. for our Oregon-area clients.

Why do we call them "lunchtime" procedures?

We call them lunchtime procedures because you can improve certain signs of aging in just a short period of time and return to your normal activities immediately or almost immediately.

Our effective yet gentle lunchtime skin rejuvenation treatments can be used to accomplish the following:

  • Give your skin a healthy glow
  • Lighten or entirely remove irregular brown spots
  • Reduce the size of your pores
  • Soften wrinkles around the eyes and frown lines
  • Greatly reduce redness
  • Restore volume to your skin

Patients love these procedures because they help slow down the appearance of aging. It's easier than ever before to look your best. For more information on skin rejuvenation, contact our Portland, Oregon-area dermatology office.

Treatment Options

Each of the lunchtime procedures described below is a non-invasive, proven skin rejuvenation technique. Dr. Peter E. Goodkin can advise you on which treatment would be best for your skin.

BOTOX® Cosmetic injections

BOTOX® Cosmetic injections relax facial muscles so that they do not contract or do not contract as much. These muscles ordinarily cause angry-looking scowl lines, crow's feet, forehead wrinkles, and a downward pull at the corners of the mouth. After treatment, the overlying skin appears smoother and less furrowed or wrinkled, while the untreated facial muscles contract normally, allowing natural facial expression.

Vibraderm™ microdermabrasion

Vibraderm™ microdermabrasion leaves your skin softer, smoother, and more translucent. In as little as 20 minutes, this gentle, abrasive technique, without the grit of particle microdermabrasion, quickly produces satisfying results.

Photorejuvenation

Photorejuvenation is designed to combat the effects of aging in a gentle way. The procedure is performed with lasers that improve the appearance of wrinkles and treat age spots, broken capillaries, and blotchy pigmentation. After your treatment, these skin problems will gradually fade and slowly disappear, leaving your skin texture more uniform, smoother, and softer.

Photodynamic photorejuvenation

Photodynamic photorejuvenation adds another dimension to the process. Levulan®, a photosensitizing substance approved by the FDA for treating precancerous sun-damage spots, is applied to the skin for 30–60 minutes. The Vbeam® laser or other light source is then used to activate the Levulan® photosensitizer. Since the Levulan® material is selectively absorbed by oil glands and brown spots in the thickened dead outer layer of skin, there is a more pronounced shrinkage of oil glands and reduction in brown spots, leaving the skin with smaller-appearing pores, reduced oil gland bumps, and reduced unsightly capillaries, as well as a more even complexion. At the office of dermasurgeon Dr. Peter Goodkin, a "lunchtime" photofacial is available to patients throughout Oregon.

The Vbeam® Laser

The Vbeam® Laser and other non-ablative lasers stimulate the production of your body's own collagen, penetrating about one millimeter into the skin. This newly formed collagen fills superficial wrinkles from within, adding volume to your skin. Some patients see improvement after only one treatment, but usually a series of treatments are required for the best results. Unlike carbon dioxide and erbium lasers, there is no wound, just short-term mild redness and puffiness, and there is little or no downtime.

Thermage® skin tightening

Thermage® skin tightening is a procedure that takes over where the non-ablative lasers leave off. This is a radiofrequency heating technique that pre-cools and protects that first millimeter of skin while heating the deeper layers, stimulating collagen formation and contraction of the fat septae, to:

  • elevate the eyebrows
  • decrease the depth of folds between upper lip and cheeks
  • better define the jawline
  • shrink jowls
  • tighten the neck

Soft-tissue fillers

Soft-tissue fillers can restore volume, thereby improving the appearance of facial wrinkles and folds. Fillers can also restore fullness to the lips and reduce the appearance of acne scars.

Superficial or light chemical peels

Superficial or light chemical peels can improve the irregular texture and appearance of dull, wrinkled, or spotted skin. They gently exfoliate or remove the dead outer skin cell layer to smooth and soften the skin. Light chemical peels can restore the skin's texture and improve its clarity and radiance. They're great for improving dull, lifeless complexions.

What about recovery?

After most of these treatments you may have some redness or swelling at the treatment site. This can be covered with makeup and you can resume normal activities immediately. What our patients like the most about these procedures is that no one has to know they were performed. Our patients just look better!
